The Day They Met ~ Available March 28th from Cobblestone Press
Jack is incredibly rich and handsome but he’s not happy, he’s lonely. Emma is one step up from homeless and feels worn out on men and life and she too is incredibly lonely. The day they meet at the orange county animal shelter, neither were expecting their entire lives to change, but within 24hrs, Jack has Emma convinced to take a chance on him and they're off to Vegas to be married!
This isn't a decision either took lightly, Jack has other commitments he struggles with and Emma has a secret that's making her soul weary, especially carrying the burden of it alone.
What I absolutely love about this story, is that the bulk of it focuses on them dealing with their romantic, but rash, decision. How in the light of day, they have to deal with family and jobs and secrets and pasts. It’s not always easy, and they screw up along the way, but Jack and Emma fight really hard for their happily ever after and I love that.
I’m not sure why it is, but it is so rare to re-capture magic.
Fool’s Gold came out last week, now to be fair, I haven’t seen it and it made a lot of money at the box office, but I absolutely loved How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, so to see these same actors in a movie again both thrills and scares me.
I want it to be good. I want to rush out and see it, but in my experience, it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to recreate what happened in the first movie.
A lot try, box office success pretty much assures you there will be a sequel, or at least an attempt to team the same stars in another picture. Occasionally the second movie is good but more often it’s crap plain and simple. Well, at least in the romance genre, genres like adventure and sci-fi have a much better track record, but I write romances, I love romances and while Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride did pretty good, movies like Grease and Two of a Kind are a perfect example, not to mention Grease 2.
Movies like The Thorn Birds and Gone with the Wind were so wonderful they never should have been messed with and what about Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile and War of the Roses. And Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail…Although in fairness, this is sort of an exception considering they did Joe Vs the Volcano first, but you understand where I’m going with this.
So what about books?
As a reader I adore a good series. Especially of the big family, each member finding their soul mate in each book and I absolutely marvel at writers like Lila Dubois (see next post), JR Ward and Karen Marie Moning and so many others who build whole worlds with so many details to keep straight from one book to the next and create characters we can’t wait to go back to time and again.
It's a well known fact, if you've been paying attention, that my favorite author is Catherine Anderson. Her books like Annie's Song and Baby Love are some of my all time favorites, and the Coutler family series will always be on my keeper shelf.
As a writer, I find a sequel to be a lot of pressure. lol I’ve written two series deliberately, The Anything series at Liquid Silver and the Kiersen's Legacy series at Siren, and yes both series have new books coming soon, but it isn't as easy as I thought it would be to write a series. In part because I get so many story ideas and I'm always wanting to follow new ones and discipline is not my strong suit, but also because I want to due the characters justice and recapture the essence of what the readers loved in the first place.
And coming full, as I said at the top of this post, it is so rare to re-capture that magic.
I'm hoping you all have enjoyed Anything for Sasha--and don't worry, Nick's story is nearly done, and Love Lust and Deception, is already done and at the publisher's, I'm just waiting on edits--but bottom line, single title or series, I know I’ll always write stories with the intention of tugging at hearts and reaching souls and hopefully create characters you’ll never forget and want to know more about. So what about you? What movies, books or couples have you loved and what series lived up to or broke your hearts? I’d really love to know. ;-)
